Every Sivakasi seller publishes a crackers price list before Diwali, and to a first-time buyer they all look the same: a long table, a huge MRP, and a discount percentage in red. This post explains how to read one properly so you can compare sellers on the number that actually matters.
MRP is not the useful number
Printed MRP on fireworks is set high by convention. A box marked ₹1,100 and sold at ₹550 is not a bargain if another seller lists the same box at ₹480. Ignore the percentage and compare the net rupee price per box, then check the piece count.

Roughly what each category costs
Prices move year to year with raw material and transport costs, so treat these as orientation rather than quotes. The live figures are always on our price list.
- Sparklers — the cheapest way to add volume to an order; sold by the packet in 7cm to 30cm lengths.
- Ground chakkars and flower pots — low-noise, strong colour, and usually the best value per minute of actual display.
- Bijili and bomb — sound items, priced by the packet.
- Repeating shots and aerial shells — the most expensive per box and the biggest visual payoff; a handful is enough for most families.
- Gift boxes — an assortment in one carton, the simplest option and usually the best rupee-per-item value.
Building a sensible order
A workable split for a family Diwali:
- Half your budget on ground items — chakkars, flower pots, sparklers. These give you the most minutes of celebration.
- A third on aerial — one or two repeating shots or shells for the finish.
- The rest on children's items — novelties and short sparklers.

Why prices rise closer to Diwali
Two reasons: manufacturers release stock in batches and the later batches cost more, and transport capacity for explosives is finite and gets bid up in the last fortnight. Ordering early is consistently cheaper.
